There is no Leadership without Creativity

Something happens when we grow up. We lose that spark of creativity, that spark of imagination. It’s not that our parents or teachers plan for this to happen. They don’t have some diabolical plan to rob us of it. I would like to think that most parents and teachers want us to remain creative, long into our adult lives.

But it still happens. We still become less creative as we age.

This really is the secret sauce of true leadership. Leaders today can’t solely rely on being the most informed in the room, or the most technical. That time is long past. The businesses we run are far to complex for that.

Leaders today must be creative, and not just that, they must be able to inspire creativity in those they lead. That is not an easy task. But leadership isn’t meant to be easy.
